wants to book their own trip on the web. This online auction lets you
"name your own price" and act as your own internet travel agent.
You've probably even seen William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame in
those corny but cute Priceline commercials on TV.
Priceline

Travel Auctions Explained
Travel auctions usually use one of three auction models:
The reverse auction,
the B2C
(business to consumer) method, and sometimes the
C2C
(consumer to consumer) method.
Priceline.com
uses the reverse auction method, where you get to name the
price you would want to pay for a ticket or a vacation. If the
airline, hotel, etc, accepts your travel bid, then you can grab a real
vacation bargain.
There are plenty of other sites are out there
for you to use and some can be very good, but we highly recommend that
you use caution in two areas: Time share auctions and Travel Vouchers.
Other Travel Deals
Time Share
This is
definitely not for everyone- it is complicated, and you can get locked
into legally binding, long and expensive contracts if you are not careful.
Still, if you visit a place like Disney World in Orlando year after year,
it may be a good bargain for you, and bidding for other people's unwanted
timeshare properties is a way to save big if you are interested in this
type of accommodation.
Travel vouchers
One word:
OUCH. YUCK.
Okay, so that's two words.
If you are at a site advertising a lot of these types of deals, we
recommend you look elsewhere, plain and simple.
When you want to take a trip
on vacation then book a hotel and by an airline ticket- don't buy a glorified
coupon, which is exactly what a travel voucher is.
Sure, you may
eventually use it, and it just may possibly be an amazing deal, but all
too often, the voucher programs have huge restrictions, block out dates,
sneaky expirations, less than desirable amenities or other nasty features.
And this is if you don't lose or forget the voucher in a kitchen drawer
until it expires,
which they are banking on.
Why are these travel
vouchers so popular to the companies that sell them? They know the
odds of you actually getting around to using them before they expire are
very low.
The travel industry loves vouchers too, because they
receive money back from the voucher companies, for services they may never
have to provide. It's a bird in the hand for them, so to speak.
Want a refund for that travel certificate? Yeah, sure... Read
the fine print.
Bottom Line...
Stay away from travel
vouchers and use caution with time share! If you want to take a
vacation, BUY ONE.
For bargain travel deals, bid at a reputable site
like
Priceline where you can almost always find last minute flights and
hotels, usually at a rate that is better than or similar to a voucher.
When all else fails, you can book directly online with an online travel
agent, or just pick up the phone and call the airlines and the hotels.
If you are bidding on travel at an auction site like ebay, make sure it is
for actual travel and not for a voucher or a coupon.
