Buying DVDs and movies in online auctions Part 1: How to find the best deal! Okay. So the the obvious choice is ebay, right? Not necessarily. Remember, you can save 50 percent or more at sites like Half.com, ECampus.com and other places on the web. Here's what we recommend: If you just want one or two DVDs, you could use an amazon.com powered store like this one at our sister site: MovieFocus.com. This way, you get a great price, fast shipping and the usual guarantees etc. But, let's say you want to buy a whole collection, or maybe a bunch of DVDs or films from one genre, like say, 1950s Science Fiction movies? Then, you could try this: Go to www.ebay.com, and do a search for "Science Fiction DVD". Then, you can drill down in the search results by selecting the BUY NOW tab, and by specifying SORT BY: TIME: Newly Listed. You should now see a bunch of choices that you can just click and buy. Yeah, okay- not bad. We tried it and it yielded 3220 results. Time to narrow our focus a bit. Let's say you actually were looking for a 1950s sci-fi movie. So, we'll also check the box that says "Search Title and Description". You could put in "1950 science fiction dvd", but that would only yield results from that year. Plus, there's a problem. Should you try searching for "1950's" or drop the apostrophe and use "1950s"? And won't that cut out any results where a seller listed say, 1953 as the movie year? What to do, what to do... The solution? It's called a wildcard search. See Buying DVDs Online Part 2: Find movie news & more at our sister site MovieFocus.com |
